What's Legal

Meriam Webster defines copyright as: "the exclusive legal right to reproduce, publish, sell, or distribute the matter or form of something. There are many fine lines between what's legal and what's not. There's also different kinds of copyright like art, drama, music and other things. You can buy mP3s off the internet like iTunes legally but if you use file sharing or put the mP3 online for others to download it's illegal. Now in some cases it's not. For example the band Man Overboard puts up a lot of free downloads on their website but it's all owned by them and their record label. They can do that without getting in trouble because they own the rights to it, they created it and everything. Another example is movies or books. If you have ideas for something like a boook or movie and someone else has the same idea, if you don't have tangible proof that it was your idea first they can go ahead and produce/write it.
